Trouble started with the personnel that seemed like they did not get paid much to care, our bags were almost thrown on the ground from the car onto the floor, for no reason at all, then the front desk attendant told us that we could not check in for another couple of hours,we went to the restaurant to eat which amounted to almost 70$ for a two cups of coffee and some snacks, this is nuts!! The homeless outside are always looking in on the people so it makes people uncomfortable, how is this even an expensive hotel? It is right next to the Homeless shelter,it really is a sick joke. We did not check in to the hotel yet and someone committed a suicide by jumping out of the window,so now we have to wait for the police to arrive and can not leave the premises. Our rental car got scratched by the valet and a wrong service charge was made on our credit card. This was like a salvia trip that i did not want to participate in.

My brother and I stayed in this hotel last year for Ultra Music Festival. At $500+ per night we expected the 5 star experience that a downtown hotel in Miami should have offered. We had stayed in South Beach the previous year and had a fantastic experience other than the logistics of getting to downtown and back every day. We thought that staying in downtown would solve all our problems.
The experience at Casa Moderna was terrible.
Our room was not available for check in for 4 hours after check in time. When checking in they gave us paper wristbands and told us that they would only replace them for $30, so we shouldn't actually wear them. The hotel only allowed 3 people in a room, they didn't mention this when we checked in and it isn't written in the papers we signed. My brother and I brought two guests to our room to prepare for the evening and were told that they could not enter. When we tried to bring one of the guests in, we were told that we had to register the guest first, and that the registration time had already passed, meaning we had to wait until tomorrow.
One night I was standing on the sidewalk next to the hotel. A suited security thug came up to me and told me to move along. I told him I was staying at the hotel and I wasn't going to move because I was waiting for a friend. He got in my face and told me I had to either wait in the lobby or keep walking.
The suited security is a joke. They stay down in the lobby until about 1AM and then they all get off work and go to the bars. Before 1AM you have to show an ID and your wristband to get into the hotel, after 1AM you can just walk in because no one is there to stop you.
On our last night I called to the front desk and requested a wake up call and a cab to be available at a specific time in the morning. It is a good thing I set my alarm because the wakeup call never happened. When I woke up in the morning I called the front desk to remind them about the cab. When we got to the lobby there was no cab and no one had called. We had to walk with all our luggage to Biscayne to hail a cab.
The only thing I can positively comment about is the facilities. The pool at the top is beautiful and can be used 24hrs. In the evenings you have to bring a towel because none are set out. Our room was also very nice although one of the TVs did not work. You could however see both the toilet and shower from the bed so there was no personal privacy.
This hotel has the fascade of a 4-5 star hotel packed full of 0 star service. It was a complete rip off and I will never stay here again.

nice rooms. good service. odd location. feels too quiet / tranquil for an urban hotel.
