The hotel was great. Conveniently located in La Jolla, the service was excellent, and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Parking can be expensive since there is only valet. Street parking is allowed overnight but parking enforcement starts at 9am. Rooms are very clean and seem recently renovated. A tad bit on the small side but otherwise great.

No swimming pool for a $300 the night. Breakfast is very basic, nothing outstanding and they open at 6.30. Last day I couldn't get breakfast since I had to leave at 6.30. They didn't provide an alternative. Gym is very small and limited. The only good thing is the location.

Just a beautiful hotel in the middle of LA Jolla. Nice cozy, luxury hotel. Close to the Cove and beach. Suites are wonderful! Shortage living room with 60 inch tv, bedroom with hot tub and king bed with a 50 inch tv. Robes, Egyptian cotton towels, excellent service. This is an all inclusive hotel breakfast served every morning. Love this place! Great weekend getaway!

Went to Manhattan to hear Tad Sisler sing and play the piano. He is so fantastic. If you ever get the chance, go see him!

The environment was great, the piano was fun to listen to. However, the service was terrible. We had a birthday party celebration and out waiter kept disappearing. The food was ok, the salmon was bad however. It just tasted like it was prepared by someone who never prepared a salmon dish before.

Excellent location with plenty of walkable dining and shopping options, as well as a short stroll to the beach. Very helpful staff. Free breakfast is a useful perk. Quite limited fitness room though.

Went to the Manhatten for some drinks and to listen to Tad Sisler. Bartender was very friendly and made my pregnant wife some amazing virgin cocktails. Fun atmosphere and friendly staff.

Ate dinner at Manhattan in the empress hotel. Ambiance was great, very adult feel with amazing food. We were a little disappointed by the music, we were hoping for love jazz but instead it was a cheesy piano bar musician. Still a great evening though.

Super clean and best staff in La Jolla. Not a flamboyant hotel but 5 stars does not describe it's true value.

The Manhattan Restaurant is fantastic. The atmosphere is a throwback to the Rat Pack days, with brick and deep booths. The wait staff is perfectly attentive and accommodating. The food is delicious...I ordered a steak, which came in only one size, huge.

Very friendly and up to date staff. Manhattan downstairs is lively, but once in your room, you can't even tell.

I was warned my uber driver might not find it, but that hasn't been a problem yet.

Manhattan at the Empress Hotel is like a throwback to the sixties. Great old room, terrific cocktails, delicious food, awesome old timey singer, and the best bartenders in town. Highly recommend!

When my friends come from New York this is where they always stay. Beautiful hotel great service nice rooms and I love the slippers and robes. Have a drink and enjoy the music at happy hour. And a must is having dinner at the Manhattan Restaurant very traditional Italian food everything is fabulous.

This is a "piano bar dining" experience. The food is great and the service is old school "experienced" waiters. It's off the lobby of the Empress Hotel away from the crowds on Prospect. If you go before 7:00, there's plenty of off-street parking after 6pm. They have valet parking if you pull up in front and wait. It's a Boomer+ feel-good, experience.

Clean and modern, with a reasonable rate in the middle of la jolla near the cove and a lot of great restaurants. I found myself wishing there was a pool though.

We stayed at the Empress while in La Jolla for a wedding. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The central location was perfect for our needs and was close to dining, shopping, and the wedding venue. The room was very comfortable and the patio was beautiful!

Booked the two room sweet, and it is large. Used the valet and they are very nice and helpful. In the room they have a tablet for use and can request the car or get a reservation in the restraunt or order room service and surf the net from it.

Empress is Impressive!
My husband & I love staying at B&B's but when looking for places to stay in La Jolla we came across the Empress and are we glad we did! Beautiful boutique hotel! The service was good and the place is very detailed. The lobby has been beautifully redecorated and the have fresh baked cookies when you arrive, as well as apples all day. The 2nd floor has a lovely covered patio (mostly used for breakfast) and hot drinks available throughout the day.
When we checked in we asked if it was possible to upgrade to a jacuzzi suite & we were in luck. So glad we did! The room is twice as large & the huge jacuzzi tub was perfect for achy backs. I also LOVED the decorating in the room (esp the teal ceilings) as well as the art in the hallways! So bright & cheery! So happy it also had a little kitchenette area with fridge, microwave, coffee/tea station, sink, storage space, wine glasses, cloth napkins AND 2 free water bottles daily!
The continental breakfast was very well maintained. Love that you can make fresh waffles.
We stayed during an unusual rainstorm, and they have an umbrella in the room to use. They thought of everything!
The only drawback was the parking situation. They don't have a self parking lot, only valet which costs $28 per night! The only other option is street parking which can work ok on weekends but only allowed 1 or 2 hour parking during the week. Overall we love the place and would definitely stay again. This time we stayed 4 nights.

My sister and I stayed there last summer and the hotel was perfect. It had the best of both worlds, elegant feel and decor to available continental breakfast. The front staff and valet was very nice and helpful no matter the time of the day. Loved the stay, will go back!

One of the easiest 5-star reviews I've written. Service is excellent, room is even nicer than expected, open air breakfast area. There's valet parking for $28 per day (with exit and re-entry allowed), and it's a short walk to the ocean. I'll definitely be staying here on any future trips to LA Jolla.

As soon as we walked in the people behind the desk bent over backwards to help you. We were new to the area and they explained what is in the area to see and do. The room was bright and spacious. We felt like a king. The beach is just a short walk away. With all the restaurants available it was nice to leave the car there and walk. They offer a valet service which is handy as the other choice is the parking garage or on street parking.

Fantastic Italian food and service at Manhattan. The bar side of the restaurant gets a little raucous, but you can find a quiet place on the other side.

From the moment you arrive at this gem of a hotel, you are treated like the most valued guest. The service is wonderful, the rooms are beautiful, the services first class, and even the public areas reflect the best of La Jolla. You can pay more for a room here, but you will not do better.

This is a charming, very comfortable, clean, boutique hotel. The rooms are spacious, beautifully decorated, with top-quality linens and great shower. And all the staff is outstanding. Our continental breakfast was plenty - you can make your own waffles, and there's a good variety of cereals, breads, fruit, yogurt, juices, coffee, hard-boiled eggs. I would highly recommend this hotel. It doesn't have a pool and parking is only by valet, but you can walk to everything, including the beautiful beach and Seal Rock.

The staff is incredibly nice! The hotel is beautiful and had great inside and outside seating areas. It is walking distance to the beach and lots of great restaurants and shopping. The rooms are extra comfy and clean and the restaurant had fun live music on Saturday night. They even deliver chocolate to you at turn-down time. There is a microwave and a fridge and a cute little table for eating in your room. Love this place and will be back!

I stayed at the hotel for a week and a half. I have to say that my stay there was wonderful. The hotel isn't large or super fancy. What really had me loving my stay was how kind and amazing all of the front desk people were. Seamus really stuck out in my mind. I had my Emotional Support Animals. They were very accommodating and friendly. Always polite. Always quick to help me. I had a medical procedure done during my stay and they were all so sweet and checking on me to ask how I was. I also had an emergency with one of my animals and they went the extra mile to help me print flyers to pass out. Best best best place to stay in La Jolla. Great location but the people there definitely made a lasting impression on me.

Very nice hotel, spacious, comfortable room, friendly, helpful staff. The location is great - easy walk to many restaurants, pubs, stores, and the beach! Continental breakfast is adequate, fitness room is poorly equipped and universal weight equipment is in need of maintenance. Overall, a very nice place to stay in La Jolla!

We had a private party in the Manhattan room on Feb 28th for my aunt's 60th birthday party. It was honestly one of the best nights of my life. The staff was on it ! Drinks and food were amazing and quick. Don't think I waited for a drink once all night. You guys lead by example. Keep it up.

The location is wonderful, the hotel is beautiful, and the staff is amazing! The only reason it lost a star is because there is no parking without moving your car constantly or valet and the breakfast is very lacking.

The parking around the hotel is 2 hour only or you can pay at the garage, but only for the day. You have to move it out of the garage at night to the street and then have to move it back in the morning.

The breakfast is waffles, hard boiled eggs, stale pastries, yogurt, "fresh" fruit that had obviously sat there for a while, and a meat and cheese plate. The website says "deluxe" breakfast and we had better at the airport hotel before our trip.
