Nice boutique hotel. Closing end of the year to be converted to condos but still providing good service. Facility is in pretty good condition considering.

My favourite hotel, true charm, for many years. Fabulous decor, charming, confortable, super friendly staff, my second home in the upper East side. I think NY will lose a precious piece of identity when it closes. Really sad that I won't be able to just fly there, not even for the curtain call. I wish the best of luck to all the people who work there and contribute to making everyone feel at home in a beautiful place.

We had initial issues when we booked but the hotels manager was such an amazing woman. She went out of her way to make sure we had amazing accommodations and were comfortable in our room. I appreciate all the help the hotel gave us and our room had a beautiful view and clean. Thank you hotel Wales

My husband and I came to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We loved the old world charm of the hotel. The staff was friendly and the rooms very clean and comfortable. The location was excellent. We are sad to learn it will be converting to condos soon. So happy we got to stay before that happens.

Bell services were excellent. The 10th floor hallway we're almost unbearably warm (in August), but the rooms were air conditioned as well as you could want. Serabeths right next door had excellent breakfast and provides room service if you're interested. The elevators are small, but we never had to wait for multiple rides before finding an empty one like you have to do in busier hotels. Very nice stay! Also we never used the fitness facilities, but they were available and they also have an agreement with a local YMCA for discounted visits at the pool or other facilities. WiFi was good but did tend to slow down during busy times. Ranged from 6Mbps to 1Mbps for me.

Hidden gem. Very good walkability to restaurants and museums. Has a nice parlor with pool table. Had a very nice selection of free teas and coffee in parlor too. Staff was very professional and gave good recommendations for the area.

Very European style hotel. Bathroom was dangerous to all but the fleet of foot. There was a trip step up and slippery tiles on the floor. The 100 year old plumbing didn't always flush. We were there with family. They also had plumbing troubles. The staff is nice and helpful.

The hotel is a block from central park and walking distance from the Metropolitan Museum of art. It's an old structure renovated to include all modern amenities. The staff is nice and friendly and you have all basic amenities including free wifi. What they don't have is a complimentary breakfast (just coffee and tea) but there are plenty of places to eat near by.

Hotel was elegantly designed and nicely appointed. Amenities were all good, and check in was a breeze. Only issue I really had was that the room was a little warm for this time of year. They sorted it out for the night after, however. All in all, a pleasant experience.

Coffee & tea on mezzanine level 24x7. Many nice restaurants in walking distance. In good weather walk to Central Park and to many museums. Dog friendly. Be sure to get a suite looking out onto Madison Ave.

It's a very nice hotel I was there for a party. I only spent 3 hrs there so I can say how nice the rooms are, but the party was good. Good food, good drinks. The only criticism I have is that it was a little warm and the valet parking is very expensive.

The best hotel for the best rate on the Upper East side. The roof top has amazing views as the building is situated at the top of the Carnegie Hill District. The roof top also has patio tables to hang out and enjoy a cocktail. Next door to all the local shops, restaurants, and bars. An amazing liquor is just around the corner with an incredible selection of wine. Enjoy!!

The room is tiny, the shower is awful, the bed is terrible, no room for makeup in the bathroom. It's a great location, but I'm not impressed. I would not stay here again.

The hotel has spacioys rooms according to NYC standards. One of the few hotels in NYC where a family of 5 can stay in one room. Very nice roof terrace to unwind. One can unwind at story 2 also with free coffee / tea / newspaper and ample lounge chairs. Comfortable rooms with small wooden details in it. Friendly staff. Would recommend.

Here due to a family in the hospital (Mt. Sinai). Stayed three nights. Rooms have a certain history to it that doesn't make you feel like you're in a hotel. Complimentary lemon water and sometimes sangria in the lobby. Complementary tea and coffee in the mezzanine as well. Beautiful roof garden/terrace with lounge furniture. Definitely the place to come to after a long day to unwind and relax. The staff is very attentive, polite and even asked us how our family member in the ICU was doing. That's the sort of hospitality that makes you feel at ease and comfortable with your choice.

I absolutely love this hotel. I stayed in a suite with my family and couldn't have been happier. The location is brilliant for Central Park and close to the 96th St (and 86th St) subway. The decoration was beautiful, the beds comfortable, and I loved the other facilities (tea/coffee room, rooftop terrace with beautiful views, etc.) and the complementary sangria. I'll be coming back!

This is the only hotel I will stay in in New York. I grew up in the city and it's important for me to be in a neighborhood with local markets a hardware store across the street and the beauty parlor down the block. Carnegie Hill is one of New York's great neighborhoods and this hotel reflects the neighborhood as well as its own history. I always stay in a room with a view as I've had some of the smaller rooms and surprise surprise you get what you pay for. Room service is great the waitstaff is great and the check in is flawless. One year when my daughter was living in New York I stayed at the hotel six times. I'm there at least once a year as I have absolutely no complaints. Great job!

Nice location, friendly front desk staff. Did not have any trouble with wifi. Radiator heat (my visit was the first week in January) interrupted my sleep. Bathroom was large, room too small. No closet to speak of. I pay for safety and conditions to induce sleep. The radiator noise kept me from giving this quaint hotel four stars.

My mother has loved this hotel for years; since before it was renovated and upgraded the 1980's when she was a girl; but more recently my folks stayed
At this lovely low key boutique style hotel in the 1990's; before I was born; it's a great location for exploring the museums accessing good Restaurants and walking in central Park!

This is a quaint little hotel and it is definitely somewhat historic. Good restaurant downstairs and access to other very good restaurants and markets nearby. Room service is available from the neighboring restaurant, coffee And tea provided free in the mornings.

The good: cute old place with great woodwork, tile, etc.

The to-be-expected: tiny rooms.

The potentially problematic: extremely unreliable wifi. If you need internet, you should look elsewhere.

TV doesn't really work (like wifi).

The bad: curdled cream with the coffee served on the mezzanine.

Verdict: you'll get far more bang for your buck at a Comfort Inn or Quality Inn.

The Hotel Wales is a lovely experience. My family has stayed at this hotel many times over the last 20+ years. Whenever we visit from Colorado, the charm of the authentic antiques in the rooms, the charm of the marble entrance-way, the pleasant staff, and of course Sarabeth's resteraunt, it all combines for a wonderful experience. We've stayed at many different places over the years (that have gone co-op), the Wales is usually a first choice.

Wifi is not good. This is definitely not a place you want to stay if you intend to work in your room and need good Wifi.

It is a lovely little hotel, nice staff good location, we'll presented, and generally throughly enjoyable. There were only two problems I discovered during my stay 1. The Wifi is SLOW! Though my devices said they have a full signal it was really slow to load Web pages and download email, so not great if you are trying to work. 2. And this may only apply to my room, at occasions throughout the night someone, I'm not sure who or why, seems to go out and hammer something hard aND metal on the fire escape. As such it sounds like someone is hammering a metal in into the wall outside your bedroom. My girlfriend and I are very heavy sleepers and it woke both of us everytime. Ot is very very loud and jarring.

Other than that I loved it and would happily move in if they'd let me.

Upon check-in, it took the lady at the counter five or ten minutes to find our reservation as we booked the hotel earlier that day. The room I stayed in was clean and pretty well kept although definitely on the small side. The sheets felt pretty luxurious but that's where it ends. The towels could of been bigger and at least one lampshade was cracked. The iHome alarm clock felt pretty useless unless you still own an older generation iPhone. It would of been nice to have a more convenient place to charge your phone as the only option was on the desk or own the floor beside the entry door.

Free breakfast had good protein, saved us money eating there. Rooms clean and quiet. Really liked the small hotel. On a good bus line, with northbound stop across street, southbound stop directly in front. Will stay there again.

First the rooms. Ours was on the smaller side but it was sufficient for sleeping in. The bathroom was large and the shower was nice. Our roomb was well insulated andbwe never heard other guests. The attached restaurant has a good breakfast and there is a convenient store a few doors down. The hotel puts out sangria each day from 3.30 to 5.30 which is great after a hot day of walking around. The balcony on the roof offers a nice final touch.

The hotel is about 5 mins to central park and 10 mins to the Met by walking. There is plenty of shopping near by. We would stay here again.

What a lovely hotel!
The staff are very friendly and are willing to help you get to where you want to go that day whether it be calling a taxi for you, helping you with subway instructions, or suggesting a good resturant/good truck. The rooms are very clean as well as the bathrooms. Overall, fantastic stay!
