This is s review of the Pipestem Resort campground only.
This is a lovely campground. Medium size (about 55 sites) with tent sites, pull throughs, full and partial hookups. Their phone customer service is good and organized (often not the case with State parks.)
We arrived late at night, and the ranger/guard greeting us at the park entrance made us feel both welcome and secure. The carved wood map at the entrance to the campground helped us find out site easily.
Bathhouse and laundry room are clean and functional. Showers are made of nice tile and shower curtains are new. Water pressure and temp are both perfect.
Sites are relatively level, each with its own trash can, fire ring, and picnic table. There's a nice playground. Everywhere, a lovely canopy of trees and plenty of room per site.
Staff was lovely. Each morning the ranger/manager rode around in his vehicle/golf cart, assuring that everyone had all they needed and were happy.
We will come back!

This is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL park! If you want to camp in a tent/camper or stay at the lodge or rent one of the many cabins, this place has many options, lots of space and beautiful views to please everyone. There are lots of activities for all ages too. Did I mention the beautiful (stocked) lake? I love this place. Just remember to check and double check your grocery list. It's a hop, skip and for jumps to the closest grocery store.

This is a beautiful park with many available activities. We first came there in 1978 with our young children and had a wonderful, almost magical, experience discovering this park. We have been back probably about ten times since then. One plea: West Virginia, please put some serious money into upgrading the facilities. There has been very little change in the lodge or the cabins since these facilities were built. (I think the park opened around 1970.) After 48 years they need major upgrades or perhaps need to be totally rebuilt. (It's still a great experience to visit there, but everything that has ever been built anywhere needs to be refurbished once in a while.) Still love this park, though.

As a local, I can only review the indoor pool which my family attends regularly. The water is perfectly warm as well as the atmosphere. Lifeguards are friendly and attentive. Pool will close for safety reasons if there is lightening. Large bathroom with toilet stalls, changing stalls, showers, and sauna. Game room, gym, and snack machines are close by.

We just got home to SW Florida from a family reunion at Pipestem. They really know how to State Park it in W Virginia. The cabins were clean and comfortable. Every amenity was taken care of. The park itself accommodated any and all tastes in entertainment. Golfing, horseback riding, pool swimming, close by pontoon boat rentals with lake swimming, trail hikes, geocaching and more. If you end up bored, it's your own fault. As a family, we're already booking for a return in 2 years.
To anyone that has never been, GO, you can not be disappointed.

Love love love. Beautiful (although a bit outdated) facilities. A solid restaurant, and a sauna is a luxurious way to come back after a day of hiking. Can’t wait to return!

Beautiful park with wonderful hiking trails. Wish the large gift shop opened earlier in the season. Was still closed when we were there on spring break the first week of April. The indoor pool at the lodge is incredibly nice!

Beautiful park! Very friendly and helpful staff. Amazing views, especially for a flat lander like me and my family. Spend the money to take the tram ride down to the lodge and relax by the river

Shocked to see no rhododendrons, azaleas or native plants in bloom. Its a profiting program for the state of West Va. most employees are minimum wage without health benefits. It's a very poor state and Pipestem makes it ever so obvious

Great Resort with tons of activities for the family. Is under renovations and the place looks very nice. TheThe rooms have WV made soaps and lotions. The gift shop inside the Resort has many WV made articles and pretty things. The indoor pool is heated and there are lifeguards on duty and the lend foaties for the family. The restaurant prices a la carte are affordable and the buffet selection is good. Worth the visit and will love to go back during mid-spring of summer when the airtram is working.

What a breathtakingly beautiful park! My husband and I vacationed nearby for our anniversary and were overwhelmed by the scenic vistas within Pipestem. A definite must see for mountain lovers. Within the park all manner of outdoor activities were available, from golfing and horseback riding to hiking and canoeing. A very nice restaurant is located centrally. Also included are various gift shops for soveniers and gifts. If visiting, the tram ride is a blast! We had so much fun riding up and down the mountain, fully enjoying the view. What a wonderful experience. Almost heaven...

Great park with almost anything you can think of to do and more. Definitely would want to spend a week here when i get the chance! I was hoping for it to be a bit cheaper, everything had a fee. A one time park entry fee i think would work better. With the exception of a few activities.

Pipestem is a beautiful park with endless amenities and fantastic staff. But the vacation cabins need some serious attention with respect to maintenance and upgrading the 30 year old furniture to make this place the shining star it could be.

The views of the canyon rim are spectacular. On the other hand the lodge is a bit dated and could be a wonderful place if refurbished properly. I ate at the Bluestone Restaurant and the view was impressive. But the wait staff was inexperienced and the food was average.

5 ☆'s!!!! I really can't say enough great things about this place. We stayed in the campground with full hook up's for 3 days. I will note to anybody doing the same; make sure you have a regulator for your water hose. Their water pressure is 100 psi. I have never seen a Campground so accessible for handicap. They have several accessible sites; and a separate accessible bathroom where my husband had plenty of room to get in, use the bathroom and shower. All the staff at the campground and throughout the park were all friendly and helpful. We spend one day at the lake fishing. I also took a 1 hour horse ride through the park for what I thought was a very reasonable price. Everybody at the horse stables were very friendly and helpful. We had dinner at McKeever lodge one evening. Everything was fabulous. Our waitress keep up with our table very well. When we went up to pay they asked how everything was and I answered with wonderful but continued to explain that I had read a lot of bad reviews about this place. She informed me that they had gotten a new manager in April and things had really improved. We didn't want to leave and made reservations for next year before we left.

This place is beautiful! There is a lot of activities to do, places to eat, and sights to see. Everything is very reasonably priced too. We always enjoy our time in Pipestem. We stay in McKeever Lodge. It's rustic, comfortable, and very reasonably priced. Don't expect an upscale hotel experience, but everything is clean, comfortable, and the staff is very accommodating. The park rangers keep the park in superb shape. There are plenty of trails to hike or ride on a rented mountain bike. I know the golf is also top notch. There is a nature center with weekly activities, an amphitheater with concerts, movies under the stars, put put golf, an olympic sized pool, and plenty more. You will not be bored. We love taking the tram down to the river and eating at the restaurant down there. It's very good food! Didn't expect good seafood in West Virginia.

Just returned... I'm a mountaineer who has been away too long.... Wanted to go to the mountains for a few days of fall weather and golf. Best short trip in a while. The facility is super, the people were very friendly and helpful. Stayed at Mountain Creek Lodge, played golf at both courses, toured most of the park. Great time, excellent value, will be back again!

Great park to visit. Family friendly. Lots of picnic areas. The nature center is great to just get out, walk around and learn some history. The horse back riding, swimming, and tram riding are fun. The hike up to the tower is pleasant and view is great. The winter snow provides some breath-taking views. There is lots of wildlife to observe. I have visited Pipestem 2 or 3 tmes a year for about the past 20 years. Already made a winter trip this year and plan to go again in June then again in August or September depending on when the leaves turn.
