The Castle Hotel

Castle Green, Taunton, ENG TA1 1NF, United Kingdom Access

The Castle Hotel

The Castle is one of the most renowned 4-star hotels in England. It is also one of Great Britains most historic - with origins stretching over 1000 years. For more than 60 years - it has been run by three generations of the Chapman family. Sitting at the gateway to Englands West Country - The Castle provides an ideal mix of town centre convenience with easy access to some of the most breathtaking landscapes that the South West has to offer. The property is within easy driving distance of several Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty - including the Blackdown - Brendon and Quantock Hills as well as Exmoor National Park. There are also plenty of historic houses and grand gardens to explore around The Castle Hotel - and the Museum of Somerset lies on our doorstep. The property is a child friendly hotel with bedrooms large enough to accommodate young families. The 12th Century rose garden - with its original moat wall - is a great place for children to play and explore. Why not enjoy an afternoon tea in the sun while they do so. Couples looking for romantic getaways and weekend breaks would be hard pressed to find a better retreat. BRAZZ - the hotels restaurant - is a firm favourite with locals and travellers alike. Head Chef - Liam Finnegan and his team use the very best regional produce to create fantastic seasonal dishes. Residents and non-residents are welcome to join us for Breakfast - Lunch and dinner.

The Castle Hotel is conveniently located in Taunton town centre. We are a brief 5 minute walk from Taunton coach station

Love this hotel! Really charming and full of character. But still renovated, with good showers and comfortable beds. Staff was really welcoming and did their best efforts to make sure we had the best time there. The restaurant is also very good. We had dinner twice there and really enjoyed the ambience and food. I recommend it!

Hotel is beautiful, rooms superb, the bed was so comfortable, but best of all was the evening meal we had,the food and staff were fantastic.
Looking forward to finding an excuse to go back!!

Fine dining resturant - Very disappointing for a Michelin * rated resturant. Not suitable for vegetarians, contrary to as advertised. I am not a vegetarian. My review based on carnivores food.

A lovely afternoon tea very relaxed and friendly and we were able to stay as long as we wanted. One of our group requested gluten free food and it looked just like everyone else's and she was very impressed. Would recommend to anyone

Having visited The Castle Hotel for many years now I can honestly say I have never been disappointed. This last weekend was no exception. I had arranged a surprise weekend stay for my husbands 60th. I emailed The Castle several times to finalise details and to answer any questions I had. The response was quick efficient and helpful. On arrival our room was gorgeous! We had room 17 which was uber clean and comfortable. The bed was soooo comfy and huge! Our room looked out onto the car park and square. Considering The Winchester is opposite and another bar was close by,it was surprisingly quiet. (May be different in the height of summer with the windows open) The bathroom was also sparkling clean and the toiletries smelt divine.
The shower was so gorgeous I didn't want to get out! Towelling robes were provided and decent bath towels too. In a good sized fitted wardrobe there was plenty of room to hang clothes there was also an iron, ironing board, hairdryer and safe.
The staff were helpful and friendly and the surprise chocolate birthday cake arrived exactly as planned. The food in The Castle Bow is delicious and the breakfast was incredibly varied and yummy.
Honestly it was such a fabulous weekend.
What I love about The Castle is that its sumptuous and elegant but not stuffy. We are very much looking forward to our next stay at this great hotel. Thank you so much.

Food and service here for afternoon tea was unexpectedly great. The car park was full but to be expected midday with meetings, guests, and social gatherings. Worth looking around if you get the chance but it's now the kitchen that makes it.

Went to the Bow Bar. Scotch served with loads of ice, bar staff serve that as standard without bothering to ask whether you want it or not. Every glass our party of four used had a chip. Comfortable though

I've been staying at and using the castle hotel for thirty years, and unfortunately it's only ever had a downward trend. It used to have a Michelin star at its restaurant which it lost some years ago. I called to make the reservation, and was told to leave a message, and I would be called back. I wasn't, and called again three hours later. I stayed last weekend, and on arrival was unable to gain access to the car park. I called the reception whilst stationary at the barrier, and again got voicemail. I left the car, and went to the reception, who was on the phone. People were waiting behind my car. There was no porter available. I was given a room on the third floor; the lift was out of order. Breakfast the following morning was in the brasserie, with a buffet style. No one came to my table. Then on ordering breakfast from the front section, and it not arriving after twenty minutes, I chased it up with the same chap, who said that he'd given the order to the waitresses. It's a nice hotel, but its management and service levels are deteriorating, and it's now only a three star hotel.

It was only ok really,l expected more.
The coffee was ok lve had far better in coffee 1. The staff were friendly enough but service could and should have been better. Part of an order was forgotten and had to ask for a knife ,which really you shouldn't have had too.
All in all a bit of a dissapointment and l can't say lm in any hurry to return.

Beautiful hotel, very old fashioned but just on the right side to feel quite whimsical. Place has so much character! Room was comfortable and clean, only single beds were available for my stay yet breakfast was empty so not sure if they were actually fully booked? Wide selection at buffet and quick service. Had a great stay and will stay again.

The breakfast is superb. The staff lovely. The room ok, but considering I had paid for a delux, it was a little dated and tired. Great central location. My car looked like a local friendly albatross took a liking to my car, complimenting it by a copious amount of defecation.

5

Nice hotel, but a little tired. The Castle is centrally located and amazing from the outside. First impressions are good, the lobby and bar area are lovely. Once we got to our room the scars appeared. Could use a refurb to be honest. Our sink was dripping and none of the furniture in our room matched. For the price of the room we expected more.
